Dennis Boyle retires after 39 years

After nearly 40 years, Dennis Boyle has retired as music director and conductor of Philomusica Concert Choir. Dennis Boyle studied with world-class conductor/teachers of the choral art as Robert Shaw, Vance George, Margaret Hillis, Dennis Keene, Robert Page, Gregg Smith and Jon Washburn. He adapted and shaped their techniques into his own unique style for achieving a translucent ensemble sound. Under Mr. Boyle’s direction, Philomusica has performed in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, the Duomo in Florence, and Canterbury Cathedral in England. He made his Lincoln Center conducting debut with Philomusica in Avery Fisher Hall on May 28, 2001.

Dennis Boyle has an extensive musical legacy as a well respected singer, educator, and conductor in New Jersey. Dennis Boyle was so well regarded in his field that former students sought opportunities to work with him whether it was singing in Philomusica, as guest artists during performances, or as composers submitting work to be performed. Philomusica’s singers have counted themselves as extremely fortunate to work with a conductor of such high caliber. As one member of Philomusica put it, “Dennis Boyle’s standard for musicianship, his ability to draw singers into his musical vision, and his persistent encouragement has made singing in Philomusica a treasured experience. That, and his friendship, will always be dear to me.”
